A 2020 Guide of iBeacon Technology

Step wise guide to use ibeacons and install them wherever required with the proper guide of iBeacon installation.

  1. Buying Right

There are a few dozen beacon manufacturers who mostly support chipsets from Nordic Semiconductor. There aren't many differences within the basic functionality – all work in an equivalent way. Whether you opt to shop for the $ 10 cheap Smart Beacon 4A or spend 65 Dollar on the foremost expensive HD 18-3 – their primary purpose is usually the same: the printed IDs. Beacons are available in different shapes and sizes. You can purchase the beacon as per the application whether in the form of sticker, watch or compact structure.

  1. Proper configuration

Every iBeacon works in a similar way – it broadcast three IDs:

Universally Unique Identifier (UUID)

Major IDs identify the user in range from 0 to 65535

Minor ID: This random number between 0 and 65535 identifies the situation or the thing

Multiple beacons can have an equivalent ID – for instance, when same content is to be served on a bigger area indoor or also as outdoor mobile devices. If the IDs are different, an equivalent notification will show up again multiple times.

3. How to configure a new MokoBeacon with Beacon app?

Step 1:Open/Install the MokoBeacon App on Android or iOS

Step2:Turn ON/OFF iBeacon

Turn ON iBeacon:

Press the button at the centre of the beacon and keep holding 3 seconds; The red light flashes several times then turns off, it means that the beacon is on and starts broadcasting.

Turn OFF iBeacon:

Press the button at the centre of the beacon and keep holding 3 seconds; The red light flashes for 2 seconds then turns off, it means that the beacon is off and stops broadcasting.

Step3:Scan and connect to iBeacon

When a user turns on Bluetooth on his/her phone, the application can search iBeacon devices nearby. Application can sort the scanned device via signal strength, Major or Minor value.

Clicking the device that needs to be configured, a dialog box will ask for the password. After  the user enters the correct password, he can enter into the configuration interface to configure parameters.

The device will disconnect automatically if the user does not have any operation within 1 minute. To reconnect user can click the Disconnect on the top right corner of the interface application to the device

Step4:Configure iBeacon parameters

Readable and configurable device parameters

- UUID

- Major

- Minor

- Measured Distance(RSSI@1m)

- TX Power(Transmission Power)

- Broadcasting Interval

- iBeacon Name

- Device ID

- Password

- Connection Mode

Readable and non-configurable device parameters

- Battery

- MAC Address

- Device Information

- RSSI curve

 4.Equipment Required for Deployment

Not all iBeacons got to be installed at the same time. You'll do that step-by-step. Insert the batteries into the device at runtime or activate the beacons at the site.

Tools required on the go:

1.       Screwdriver or Wrench

2.       Pliers and tongs

3.       Depending on the model: tape or pads, cable ties or pipe clamps

4.       A stepladder

5.       Smartphone for clicking pictures or doing last configuration changes and  test the live installation on site

6.       The printed beacon list

This makes things easy to figure and make efficient use of your time.

5. Documentation

Even though beacon scanner apps can lead you to the beacon by telling you the approximate distance, that doesn't mean that you simply will find it soon.

Document includes:

>> Entries within the beacon table

>> Photos of the beacons present

6. Test your beacon

Once the beacon is configured, installed and after the setup documented, just one thing is missing: a test. Is everything working? Does the device broadcast as desired? Does the range fit the needs? Now, we will give a glance at the configuration app of the manufacturer, reveals the battery level.

If necessary, you continue to need to do some fine-tuning, because the truth usually deviates from the plan – especially with such unpredictable things as radio waves within the world.
